You need exercise to induce lean muscle growth, but you need a healthy diet to actually give them energy so they do grow.

Third, you have diabetes. Most people today get type 2 diabetes which comes from being too obese, so the fastest way to prevent yourself from worrying about this is with your diet. In this case, diet is much more important than exercise, but exercise will help to sustain a good diet and keep your body in shape which is really important as well.
