Some other items that will be important to have  Easy Cellar Review  are a hand-operated can opener, battery-powered radio, flashlight, fire extinguisher, an ample supply of batteries, first aid kit, blankets, pillows, clothing, toiletries, important documents, cash, and tools. I can proudly say that one of my biggest fans has to be my wife. When we were sitting down one evening just before our Thanksgiving feast she causally stated, "Didn't you once say that the pilgrims did not have turkey for dinner". Naturally she remembered my wording exactly as I had stated it many years previously.

The 1621 Thanksgiving dinner actually came close to not taking place at all. It was not a matter of the Indians around Plymouth Plantation coming to have dinner with the pilgrims as much as the Indians saved the pilgrims lives. In all reality the pilgrims who arrived in America in the 1600's were far from survivalist pioneers. They lacked so many survival skills that if the local Indian tribes did not intervene they simply would have perished. During the first Thanksgiving the Indians brought most of the food for the feast ranging from fresh killed deer, fish and corn. The hunting party had killed several types of birds to bring with them however there is no indication that there were ever any turkeys introduced at the table.

Keep in mind that this was not the first time that these inapt people had to be helped by the Indians of the area. Without the kind help of the local tribes the Puritan settlers would have died during their first year here in America. During that first year the Indians served as both benefactors and mentors. They supplied the majority of the food during the settlers first year and at the same time taught them how to provide for themselves. The tribes employed the techniques that had been handed down from one generation to the next for thousands of years.
