Maybe the gym membership is cost prohibitive, or perhaps they are just located in an area that has no gyms nearby. If either of these situations describes you or for some other reason you simply cannot attend a gym, fear not...you can still get active, burn off your fat and get build a physique to be proud of.

If you've read my previous articles, you'll notice that getting a well balanced, nutritious diet and building a rigorous yet enjoyable exercise plan are the two things that I swear by and they are what keep me fit.

Not having a gym membership is no excuse for not getting fit. Let's look at some very simple and some slightly more clever ways to get exercise. Starting with the obvious, if you have legs and can walk, you're already partially setup. While you may not be able to walk your way to a chiseled, rock hard abs sort of body, you can certainly get your system running better and get on your way. Start out with short walks around your neighborhood to test things out if you're a total beginner.

You can increase the length, speed and intensity of the walk as you progress. To increase the intensity, you can add ankle and/or wrist weights, push your child in their stroller (don't forget her seatbelt) or in the winter time, drag a sled around with kids or other bulky items. Kids are the best bulky items to drag around in my opinion. They will enjoy the ride and the family time will do everyone some good.
