Improving Adolescent Literacy: Key Recommendations From the IES Practice Guide. Dr. Michael Kamil, chair of the IES panel that developed the Practice Guide on Improving Adolescent Literacy, gives an overview of key instructional practices and intervention recommendations. The recommendations in this course are based on the IES Practice Guide - Improving Adolescent Literacy: Effective Classroom and Intervention Practices. The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) publishes practice guides in education "to bring the best available evidence and expertise to bear on the types of systemic challenges that cannot Grades 3 through 5 are critical to long-term academic success because, for many students with LD, foundational literacy skills are still developing during a time when reading and writing tasks become more challenging.
