With the proper care and upkeep, leather can last a lifetime, so why not get the most bang for your money and learn how to clean a leather couch to keep it looking bright and brand new?

Follow these tips to keep your leather couch clean.

  • Begin by cleaning the leather couch to remove any crumbs. Then, if required, dust it to eliminate any remaining dirt. Fortunately, a leather couch is less porous than an upholstered sofa, making it easier to clean. If your sofa cushions can be removed, make sure to vacuum the undersides as well. Dirt tends to gather in the crack where the bottom reclines on recliners. Begin by cleaning the leather couch to remove any crumbs. Then, if required, dust it to eliminate any remaining dirt. • To remove the stains, soak a clean cloth in a basin of warm water mixed with dish soap, then wring it out until it's damp (not wet!). Buff out the stain by dabbing or rubbing in tiny circles around it. Rubbing back and forth produces greater wear and tear and degrades the surface of the leather. If it's a grease stain, absorb it with a dry towel and a pinch of baking soda.

  • Don't forget to dry the sofa! Water weakens leather when left to dry on its own, so obtain a dry cloth and dry the couch from top to bottom.

  • It's time to get down to business and start using cleaners. Leather cleaners may help break down grime and stains, restoring the appearance of your leather couch. Some products are 2-in-1 and include both a cleaner and a conditioner. To avoid spray marks, spray the cleaner onto a cloth rather than straight onto the furniture. Swipe softly all around, paying special attention to the corners, crevices, and crannies. To avoid uneven polish marks, work from top to bottom.

  • After cleaning, make careful to remove any excess cleaner before conditioning the couch. Apply a tiny quantity of your preferred conditioner, either in spray or bottle form, to a clean towel. Conditioners are fantastic because they include healthy oils that help your furniture look and smell beautiful while also keeping it moisturized.

  • Enable the leather to cure for an hour or so after rubbing in the conditioner to allow the substance to absorb in and avoid getting the oil on your garments. When it's dry, your leather couch will appear like it just came from the store.
