Is trash a problem in the US?

Every day, Americans discard 4.9 pounds of rubbish per person, amounting to almost 1,800 pounds of materials each year. The majority of waste wasted by homes and companies in the United States (62 percent) is eventually dumped by commercial junk removal in landfills or burned in incinerators.
