Step #3. Spread sharp (plasterers) sand over the area to a depth of 2-4 inches. The type of sand used here is important don't use ordinary sand, it just wont do the job. Give the dimensions of your lawn to your builders merchant or sand supplier, tell him the required depth and he will deliver the correct amount.
